Broken rice is the kernels that break during milling. A1 Super is the standard 100% broken export grade, sold for food in West Africa and for rice flour, noodles, brewing and animal feed elsewhere.
Grades like white rice 25% are whole rice with a high share of brokens, priced between 5% rice and pure brokens. Read how brokens are classified in our broken rice grading guide.
What moves these prices
- Feed and ethanol demand in China and elsewhere, which competes with maize prices.
- West African food demand, especially Senegal.
- India's broken rice export policy (it banned broken rice exports from 2022 until 2025).
